The risks of not protecting your business from phishing
Blog|by Leanne Bevan|28 September 2022
Welcome to our fourth and final blog in our Cyber Security Awareness Month series. We have discussed multi-factor authentication, strong passwords and software updates. This final blog sees us focusing on phishing.
What is phishing?
Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.
What are the risks of not having phishing prevention and training in place?
Here are some of the key risks of not having anti-phishing solutions and processes in place:
Hackers
Without email security and endpoint protection, ransom and phishing emails are more likely to find their way into employee inboxes.
Uneducated staff
With staff uneducated on the signs of phishing, they are more like to accidentally click on a phishing email, thinking it came from a legitimate source. Especially if they’re busy and don’t fully check the email address, name spelling, and other signs of a phishing email. It’s such an easy mistake to make and fall victim to.
Company reputation
Your company’s reputation can be at stake too if hacked. If customers see that you don’t take the necessary precautions, they may lose trust in your organisation and the safety of their information, and therefore move elsewhere. Losing your customer loyalty and income.
How can Grey Matter help?
Grey Matter works with several cyber security partners who provide endpoint security, protecting your company against phishing.
But should any fall through the net, we also work with partners that offer phishing training to employees. The training explains what phishing is and best practices on how to recognise it. Plus, you can also send fake phishing emails to test employees and send them more training if they fail the test.
Take a look at this anti-phishing guide.
For further information, our cyber security expert can run through all the relevant solutions for you, provide quotes, and advise on the best ways that you can protect your business and employees from phishing.
