Microsoft Preview SQL Operation Studio
News|28 November 2017
In October Microsoft launched SQL Server 2017 – just 15 months after the release of its predecessor. This rapid development from Microsoft means that not only are customer who pay for Software Assurance getting good value for money, it also aligns with their Azure SQL Database platform.
What was new with SQL Server 2017? It was the first time that SQL Server has ever been available for those using Linux, and this was a big shift towards open source for the company. Other major features include; automatic tuning, the introduction of graph engine and resumable index rebuild, and improvements to In-Memory OLTP and backups.
That’s not that only thing that is new with SQL Server. Microsoft has also announced that they’ll be launching SQL Operation Studio – a free cross-platform tool that will allow users to easily manage SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse across Windows, Linux and Mac.
What’s so great about SQL Operation Studio? Apart from the fact that you can manage your SQL database development and operations from one dashboard, SQL Operation Studio has a host of productivity enhancement tools. You can use your usual command line tool in an integrated terminal window within its user interface, use T-SQL code snippets and graphics to create new databases and database projects. If you want a taster of what’s to come with the full release you can download the preview here.
